We had one very important detail to tackle today .. our jack-o-lantern!
Cadence wanted a spooky pumpkin so we set off to accomplish our task ...
Step one ... clean out the guts!
While mom used the knife to carve the pumpkin's face (an adult's job), Cadence made the snacks!
We were both pretty pleased with our end product:
Hope everyone has a safe, happy, enjoyable Halloween!!!!

Black and Orange AND ...
picture day!
Yep ... the school picture day was scheduled on A Day K's Black and Orange Day. No worries, we made it work!
Not all parents were on board with the day's theme so,
when Cadence wasn't keen on the black and orange hair extensions that I was going to add to her outfit after the photo,
I relented!
Personally, I think she rocked the black and orange!

Let It Snow ...
Thursday we experienced our first snowfall of the season.
It didn't stick around.
But still ...
It is a reminder of what is to come.
Predictions are ... not good!
We are to expect a LOT of snow this year.
The snowblower maintenance check is booked.
Cadence is signed up for ski lessons.
What's left?
Oh yeah ... book a sunny destination so we can escape some of it!
Can you tell who is not yet opposed to the snow? Dance on my sweet angel ...

Falling Behind ....
Well ... guess what we had to cram in this morning, between breakfast and teethbrushing?
Yeah ... we're already falling behind in homework!!!
If she truly takes after her mother, Cadence will be pulling all nighters before the EQAO assessments!
AND ... this is what Cadence had to do at her desk on Monday:
The good news is ... everyone was doing it! They had to learn "how to be calm". I love it!
Tonight's 'play' involved simulating Picture Day. Cadence has picked her background - red - should clash nicely with the black and orange theme day!
She also picked her pose:
Who knew there would be choices in these things?
Somehow, I don't quite think her school pictures will turn out as well as these practise shots!

Another Rookie Move!
We are about a month away from the big birthday!
It should be an exciting, fun time ... it's not ... not as much anymore anyway.
I guess as we waited and waited AND waited for our turn to become parents we witnessed all of those 'events' involving children with such longing to be a part of it. With Cadence's start of school, I was ready, anxious and excited to start the planning! This was to be her first 'party'.with kids.with treat bags.with a theme. Well, every day we have a new idea.a new guest list.a new menu.a new location. Some days there isn't even going to be a party because she doesn't want one. ARGH!!!! I have realized my rookie mistake .... CHOICES! A 4 year old, this four year old, is not ready to make committed decisions.
I have to say, Cadence is a thoughtful girl. She wants a princess cake for the girls and a spiderman one for the boys. Two cakes????? I guess I can manage that! We do have a place booked ... one that didn't require a deposit ... yet! It will be a little pricey ... kids COST! There is no turning back now ... we set the tone and that's it!
I should've TOLD her where her party was going to be. I should have been the parent and taken control. I didn't and so now we'll see how things go.
It WILL be fun and exciting ... right??????

To the Soo and Back and From the Soo and Back!
The weekend before last, Cadence and I headed north to help Baba get settled in her new 'crib'. We didn't seem to accomplish very much. Perhaps that's because we hung out at the shops and park too much!
Oh well, we did manage to thank all of our aunties, uncles and cousins who worked long hours to paint, clean and move everything!
Hmmm ... we didn't even get any shots of the workers! A certain someone seemed to think SHE was the centre of attention. We sure do want to say thank you ... we are VERY grateful to everyone for ALL of your efforts!!!!
Days after our return, Baba and Aunt Donna made the long journey here for Thanksgiving. They arrived with more than they bargained for ... COLDS! As a result, photos were not in the cards for these ladies!
Baba brought Cadence a special crown (it's the headpiece my flowergirl, Mackenzie, wore 13 years ago). Cadence put it on Friday morning and wore it at school ... ALL day!
She and it lasted quite well ...
There was much to do and be thankful for this year ...
Our beautiful, independent daughter (and mom's stuffing!):
Our crazy, funny girl (and GREAT weather!):
The wonderful friendships being developed by our 3 girls:
And so much more ....
There were 3 princesses in our home this past weekend ...
But I sure felt like a queen!
