Allow me to take a few moments to reflect on what I have learned about painting thus far ...
1) I still detest painting ... unequivocally!!!!
2) Taping is worth the time and effort.
3) Have a damp cloth ready at all times. The need for this will be significantly reduced if you pay attention to #2.
4) Move ALL the furniture out of the room if possible.
5) If you can not manage #4, remove all other persons from the house who may be offended by your ranting and explicit language.
6) Do not assume you are an expert by the second coat ... realize you are being cocky.
7) Take as much time and effort with the second coat as you did with the first (this can be combined with #6).
8) IF you are going to get any paint on the carpet (the light beige carpet), it will happen in the last five minutes of the job and at the entry way to the room.
9) Closets don't need a second coat (especially if #8 occurred).
10) Accept imperfections ... you are not Picasso and this is a kid's room after all.
11) If you have difficulty with #10, put stuff up to cover it.
12) Hire someone to do the job you absolutely hate to do!
Two days of drying and then ... 2 coats of blue on the bottom .... HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the one about removing persons offended...! That is good.
Let paint on the carpet dry then take a razor to it. :) If it is just on the top layer you should be able to scrape it off. Otherwise, go to homesense and buy a mat for the floor. Any reason for more shopping!!
